Short Bio

Supported by the court of law, Tanya Hutchens advocates for women and children’s rights. Tanya Hutchens provided her expertise as a Paralegal Litigator to hundreds of cases that reunited families, stopped physical and emotional abuse, or brought answers to a variety of disputes. As the President of Gold Star Legal Services, Tanya Hutchens paid special attention to matters that could change the outcome of her clients’ lives. Tanya Hutchens went to women’s shelters and heard the stories of many occupants affected by domestic violence. Reacting to their stories, Tanya Hutchens decided to prepare cases for women who needed to settle urgent family matters at the Ontario Court of Justice. The result was fair and right: Tanya Hutchens gave abused women custody of their children and placed restraining orders against the offenders.

Although no longer in the courtroom, Tanya Hutchens still encourages women to stand up to all forms of battery by teaching self-defense courses. A current level two black belt master in tae-kwan-do, Tanya Hutchens not only offers women the tactics they need to protect themselves, but encourages them to realize that mistreatment by a partner is never warranted. Tanya Hutchens continues her own women’s studies education efforts by keeping with the latest books and reading materials on the subject. Philanthropically, Tanya Hutchens supports children and women’s aid charities around the world.

During her time with Gold Star Legal Services, Tanya Hutchens provided paralegal duties to other types of cases as well. Tanya Hutchens has prepared briefings for several courts on behalf of clients involved in landlord-tenant disputes. To prepare for her career in the legal profession, Tanya Hutchens became a part of the Canadian Paralegal Association. Tanya Hutchens was the first woman in Ontario to receive accreditation in Paralegal Litigation. Still a member, Tanya Hutchens supports the Cory Commission’s efforts to license paralegals in her province.
